Use NAIA-3, PAL urged

The Philippine International Airport Terminals Co. (Piatco) advised the Philippine Airlines (PAL) yesterday to transfer its international operations to the ultra-modern NAIA Terminal 3.

PIATCO officials said PAL management should avail of the safest security precautions that NAIA-3 can offer to passengers.

The appeal was made following the increasing threat of terrorism in transport systems. Piatco pointed out that NAIA-3 is only one of three major international airports, including San Francisco airport in California, to use the latest and most modern security system in the world.

"PAL should not unduly expose its passengers, especially with the expected and increasing tourist influx starting next year, to terrorist attacks," Piatco officials said.

They said NAIA Terminal-2, upgraded under a Japanese loan, was designed purely for domestic operations, and that it may not have the same facilities that a purely international airport can offer. – Rey Arquiza
