NAIA 3 boasts of top security technology

Philippine International Airport Terminals Co. (PIATCO) disclosed yesterday that technologically advanced surveillance and detection equipment to complement human security components will be set in place at the new Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 (NAIA 3) to ensure the safety and convenience of the flying public.

PIATCO spokesman Moises Tolentino made the assurance as he welcomed the satisfaction expressed by Aviation Security Group chief Jesus Versoza on the type of x-ray machines that have already been installed at the ultra-modern international passenger terminal.

"In keeping with the Sept. 11 concerns worldwide, we at PIATCO have left no stone unturned to ensure the safety of those who will use facilities of NAIA 3 as well as the thousands who will work there," Tolentino said.

He added that PIATCO had in mind all along the international safety requirements which had been laid down in the blueprint for the new airport terminal from the time work on the project had started.

The other day, Versoza expressed agreement with PIATCO in its decision to install CTX 900 x-ray machines at NAIA 3 which, he also said, can rival the very best in the world.

Versoza said the choice of equipment was "impeccable" because the CTX 9000 is capable of detecting even faint traces of explosive materials, including semtex, the demolition material of choice of international terrorists.

PIATCO, Tolentino said, spared neither cost nor detail to ensure the smooth and hassle-free operation of the airport.

Officials also allayed concerns about the plan to put up a public shopping mall inside the terminal by saying that PIATCO had thoroughly studied the project, particularly the aspect of security and convenience, including traffic management. – Rey Arquiza
