Truckload of fake VCDs seized in Novaliches

Government authorities seized a truckload of fake Video Compact Discs (VCDs) over the weekend in Novaliches, Quezon City in keeping with its campaign against piracy.

In a joint operation conducted by operatives of the Central Police District-Central Intelligence Unit (CPD-CIU) led by Inspector Procopio Lipana and Video Regulatory Board (VRB) led by Agent Jerry Saguire, one six-by-six truck full of counterfeit VCDs was confiscated at Meranda Building and its vicinity and at Ramirez street in Novaliches.

Police reports showed that the raid stemmed from a tip by a concerned citizen and after surveillance, the composite team made the raids from 2:20 p.m. to 3 p.m. last May 17, 2002.

Vendor Martin Lomodag, 22, of 67 Sarmiento St., Sta. Monica, Novaliches, was arrested for resisting the authorities.

The seized VCDs were turned over to the VRB.

Meanwhile, the Drug Enforcement Unit of the CPD confiscated 50 grams of shabu during a buy-bust operation Thursday.

In the operation, two alleged drug dealers were arrested. They were identified as Jalani Mahuromsalic, 24, and Adil Ampuan, 34.

The entrapmet operation was conducted at Mayon Street in front of Suki Supermarket, Barangay Sta. Teresita at around 1:45 p.m. last May 16. – Katherine Adraneda
