Police identified the alleged drug trafficker as Zheng Wu, a native of Fujian, China, and said to be main shabu source in the Malate area. Superintendent Ramon de Jesus, Malate police station commander said that Zheng was arrested at about 4 p.m. along Malhacan Road in Meycuayan, Bulacan.
Police said that prior to Zhengs arrest, a certain Rudy Ong approached the Malate police and tagged him as the alleged source of shabu in the Malate area.
Acting on the information, De Jesus immediately ordered the Station Drug Enforcement Unit to conduct a sting operation on the suspect. With the use of informants and poseur-buyers, the police managed to set up a deal at a Chinese fast food outlet along P. Ocampo Street.
Last Sunday, police said Zheng, with the use of a cellular phone, informed police informants that the deal would be made at a hamburger restaurant in Las Piñas. But as the police team prepared for the bust, the suspect again changed the venue to Meycauayan, Bulacan.
At about 4 p.m. last Sunday, the police informant and a poseur-buyer met the suspect along Malhacan Road in front of the Equitable Bank branch. After making the exchange, police moved in and arrested the suspect after a brief car chase. Seized from Zheng were five transparent plastic bags containing the shabu.
Zheng is now detained at the Integrated Jail of the Western Police District as charges of drug trafficking are being prepared against him. Mike Frialde
