Woman tries to sneak shabu into jail

-
A woman was arrested yesterday morning by a Pasay jail guard for trying to sneak in suspected shabu inside the city jail.

Chief Inspector Jaime Silva, officer-in-charge of the Pasay City Jail, said this was the second time a woman was caught trying to sneak in drugs into the facility.

Silva identified the suspect as Alicia Gutierrez, 42, of 7 Leonardo St., Tramo, Pasay.

Investigation showed that Gutierrez was supposed to visit her live-in partner, a certain Ferdinand Quimquim, who is detained on robbery charges, at around 11:40 a.m.

During the standard security check, Jail Officer 3 Jemina Espinosa said she discovered six sachets of suspected shabu tied to the buttons of Gutierrez’s blouse.

During interrogation, Gutierrez allegedly admitted she had wanted to sell the drugs to the inmates.

Senior Jail Officer 1 Ramon Carolino, a member of the City Jail’s intelligence section, said they placed Gutierrez under surveillance after she was noticed to be acting suspiciously during her visits to Quimquim.

Carolino added that last year, authorities had arrested at least 20 inmates conducting shabu sessions inside their detention cells.

Charges of violation of Republic Act 6425 have been filed against Gutierrez who is now detained.

Last March 28, Espinosa also found a sachet of shabu tucked inside the brassiere of one Jocelyn Gubato, 33, of F. Victor Street, Tramo.

According to Silva, Gubato was also supposed to visit her boyfriend, inmate Jason Marasigan. Gubato had also been charged and jailed. — Nikko Dizon
