The Philippine Society of Sanitary Engineers, Inc. (PSSEI) designed the Lukutang Maliit Landfill in San Isidro, Rodriguez, Rizal. It can accommodate around 3,000 tons of trash daily and has a life span of seven years.
It is an undertaking of the Rodriguez municipality, the Metro Manila Development Authority, the Department of Public Works and Highway, the Presidential Management Staff, Woodfields Consultants, Inc., and A.L. Salazar Construction and Persen Construction.
An access superhighway is nearing completion for the exclusive use of trucks to and from the landfill and quarry sites in Rodriguez, Rizal. A seven-foot wall is also built to secure the exclusive highway. Expected to ease the traffic along J.P. Rizal, the truck ban hours will also be strictly observed to avoid congestion on Commonwealth and Litex Road in Quezon City.
Officials said only garbage trucks which comply with specifications set by the MMDA will be allowed entry in the Lukutang Maliit landfill. The trucks should follow the leak-free and spill-free specifications before they can secure accreditation.
Part of the project will be the housing component for the people who will be hired for segregation plants that will also be built adjacent to the landfill.
