Medel passed lie detector test, says NBI

Philip Medel, the self-confessed killer of actress Nida Blanca who later recanted his confession, passed the lie detector test administered by the National Bureau of Investigation, a bureau insider revealed yesterday.

It will be recalled that Medel also previously took a neuro-psychiatric exam to determine his mental stability after claiming that he was allegedly abducted by agents of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) who forced him to admit his involvement in the Nida Blanca slay case and point to American Rod Lauren Strunk as the alleged mastermind.

NBI director Reynaldo Wycoco told reporters that the official results of the battery of tests conducted on Medel would be made public today.

Aside from the neuro-psychiatric and polygraph or lie detector test, Medel was also subjected to a physical examination by NBI doctors to determine if he was indeed tortured.

Though Medel is now a free man after the case filed against him was junked by the Department of Justice, he chose to stay in the compound of the NBI headquarters, citing security reasons. – Mike Frialde
