-
A 12-year old boy was killed while five others were wounded when a drunken man and a member of the Police Special Action Force shot it out in Tondo, Manila, the other night.

Manila Police identified the slain victim as Reynaldo Roque, a student of Magat Salamat Elementary School, and a resident of 443 Concha St. He died at the Mary Johnston Hospital from a bullet wound in the chest.

Those wounded were identified as Restituto Angeles, 36, a plumber, of 433 Concha St., who was wounded in the left thigh; Teresa Velasco, 38, of Costinas St., Sampaloc, who sustained a bullet wound in the right arm; Allan Santiago, 30, barber, also a resident of Concha St., who sustained a bullet wound in the right thigh; and Arnold Dayao, 32, of 443 Concha St., who sustained a gunshot wound in the left foot. The victims were rushed to the Mary Johnston Hospital and the Gat Andres Bonifacio Hospital.

Investigation showed that Police Officer 1 Dennis Santiago, 30, a member of the SAF and detailed with the Commission on Elections in Intramuros, arrived at his house in Camba St. at about 8:55 p.m.

Santiago was hungry and went to a store in Concha St. to buy some food. Police said that upon arriving at the store, he chanced upon a drunk man brandishing a hand gun and dragging a woman to the middle of the street.

Police said the suspect later identified as Rosendo Pangilinan, 29, of Maypajo, Caloocan City, pointed his gun at Santiago when the latter intervened and introduced himself as a policeman.

Investigation showed that instead of yielding, Pangilinan indiscriminately opened fire prompting Santiago to retaliate. Pangilinan was hit in the body and was rushed to the Mary Johnston Hospital. – Mike Frialde
