Marquez orders Parañaque nightclub padlocke

A Parañaque City nightclub was ordered closed yesterday after it was found violating fire safety regulations of the National Fire Code.

Mayor Joey Marquez said he had ordered the issuance of a notice of closure to the Wild Island KTV nightclub located along Dr. A Santos Avenue, Barangay San Isidro, Parañaque, due to the establishment’s numerous violations of fire safety measures.

Marquez said that the said establishment had been continually issued notices to comply with safety regulations to no avail, forcing him to order it closed until it does so.

Among the establishment’s alleged violations were its lack of proper fire exits, fire extinguishers and emergency sprinklers.

"We will lift the closure order if they do comply with fire safety regulations," Marquez said.

It was learned that the city fire station had conducted last week an intensified inspection of buildings and business establishments after the Manor Hotel fire tragedy in Quezon City that saw 74 people killed and more than 40 injured.

"The (Manor Hotel) tragedy alarmed us. We want to avoid a tragedy like that in Parañaque," Marquez said. – Rainier Allan Ronda
