QC barangay execs nabbed for extortion

A Quezon City barangay chairman and a tanod were arrested by the National Bureau of Investigation for allegedly demanding P150,0200 from a lot owner before evicting squatter families in Galas, Quezon City.

Those arrested were identified as Rodolfo Reyno, 52, barangay chairman of Barangay San Isidro, Galas, Quezon City, and resident of 5, 19 de Agosto St., Galas, and Henry Jordan, 28, barangay tanod, of 60 Liberacion St., Galas.

The case stemmed from a complaint filed by Bernard Serrano, a resident of Navotas and owner of a lot located at Barangay San Isidro, Galas.

Serrano told the NBI that he sought the help of Reyno in evicting the eight squatter families from his lot. Reyno, the victim said, agreed to help but demanded that he be paid the amount of P150,000.

The victim then sought the help of the NBI officials who decided to entrap Reyno while he and Jordan received the marked money inside an eatery from Serrano.

The two suspects were then presented to the office of Ombudsman Prosecutor Roland Galvan where they were charged with direct bribery and violation of the anti-graft and corrupt practices act.

Bail for the temporary liberty of the suspects were each set at P25,000 for direct bribery and P30,000 for violation of the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act. – Mike Frialde
