Vendor stabs stepmom

A 20-year-old vendor exacted revenge on his stepmother who allegedly has a habit of hitting his younger siblings, by stabbing her in front of their horrified neighbors the other day in Caloocan City.

Police identified the suspect as Arnel Abordo, single, of Block 30, Lot 12, Salaysay St., Dagat-Dagatan, Caloocan.

Abordo, who sold pails and other bathroom utensils around the city, now faces charges of frustrated murder for repeatedly stabbing his stepmother, Luminad Abordo, 47, with a fan knife.

The Caloocan City Prosecutor’s Office recommended a bail of P200,000 for the suspect’s temporary release. According to officer-on-case SPO1 Ibarra Salonga of the Caloocan City Police Station Investigation and Intelligence Division (SIID), the incident happened at around 8 a.m. along Salaysay Street.

Quoting witnesses, Salonga said that the victim was talking to her neighbors when an angry Arnel suddenly arrived. Without warning, the suspect pulled her hair, causing her to fall to the ground. Then he stabbed her several times.

Luminad suffered two stab wounds in the chest and two others in her left arm, were the fan knife was left embedded after the suspect’s final blow.

Arnel voluntarily surrendered to the police after the incident. He was accompanied by his aunt, Nilda Villeza, 38.

According to Villeza, her nephew may have stabbed his stepmother as he could not longer tolerate Luminad’s maltreatment of his siblings.

Villeza said that last Wednesday, Luminad hit the suspect’s 14-year-old sister, Mary Joy, for making a mistake.

Salonga said charges of child abuse had been filed against the victim in November last year but the case was not pursued after Arnel’s father decided to drop them. – Nikko Dizon
