Motorcycle rider dies in mishap

-
A man onboard a motorcycle was killed after he was bumped by a speeding car in Sta. Mesa, Manila, early yesterday morning.

Police said the victim, 18-year-old Marlon Fernando, of Aglipay street in Mandaluyong City, was riding tandem with a woman identified as a certain Cielo Francisco, 21, also of the same address, when they were bumped by a silver Toyota Corrolla.

According to police, the couple was passing by a motel in Old Sta. Mesa at about 2:40 a.m. when the car, with plate number TDS-238, suddenly appeared and bumped them from the rear.

The impact of the bump sent Fernando, who was then driving the bike, flying in the air. Police said he landed several meters away from the motorcycle and was instantly killed when he hit the pavement. Francisco, meanwhile, sustained bruises and slight injuries caused by the impact.

Police are now tracking down the owner of the car.

As these developed, detectives of the Western Police District Homicide Division are now trying to piece together what happened to a 38-year-old seaman whose decomposing body was found by his neighbors inside his Tondo apartment early yesterday morning.

Police said the grisly discovery of the body of Estaquio Sayao was made by his neighbors who were alarmed by the foul smell coming from his apartment at 254 Sgt. Mabagos St. Police said the victim’s neighbors initially thought that the stink was only caused by a dead animal.

Probers are now trying to determine whether Sayao’s death was due to natural cause or if there was foul play involved. According to police, Sayao was last seen alive by his neighbors about a week ago at a neighborhood convenience store. – Mike Frialde
