A Filipino-Chinese trader lost his luxury van to five armed robbers in Tondo, Manila, yesterday morning.

Reports reaching the Western Police District Anti-Car Theft Division identified the victim as Charles Uy, 50, of 7150 Bulacan St., Tondo, Manila.

According to reports, Uy was aboard his newly-bought blue Toyota Revo van with plate number (WDV-782) at about 9 a.m. when five men armed with M-16 rifles and caliber .45 pistols blocked his path at the corner of Bulacan and Juan Luna Streets. Uy told probers that the armed men ordered him off the van. The suspects then boarded the van and drove off towards Juan Luna St.

The victim told probers that he bought the van only recently for P500,000. Elements of the WPD-Ancar Division have been dispatched to track down the van and the suspects.

Two months ago, a Filipino businessman and his wife also lost their sports utility van to armed robbers, in the same area, police records showed. – Mike Frialde
