Makati launches mobile civil registration

Makati residents need not go to the Makati City Hall or the head office of the National Statistics Office to obtain authenticated birth certificates, marriage certificates and other civil documents.
Mayor Elenita Binay said personnel from the city civil registrar’s office have been visiting Makati barangays as part of its Barangay Mobile Registration project. So far, some 711 residents were able to secure documents without leaving their barangays, she said.
The mayor said registration and the issuance of birth, death, marriage and founding certificates are free, based on City Ordinance No. 96-161.
Binay said the mobile operation intends to inform residents of the importance of civil registration and at the same time encourage those who were not registered to apply as late registrants.
Josephine Camata, officer-in-charge of the city civil registrar’s office, said the activity is usually held on Saturdays. Residents are informed a week in advance of the scheduled registration date to give them time to prepare the necessary documents.
"Our mobile operations are for residents who could not secure authenticated documents either from our office or from the National Statistics Office of their birth, the birth of their child, or their marriage because they were not registered," Camata said. The city registrar has already visited the barangays of Bangkal, Cembo, South Cembo, Pio Del Pilar, Valenzuela, Tejeros, Carmona, Poblacion and Pitogo.
They are scheduled to visit Barangay La Paz on Nov. 25, and Pembo on Dec. 9.
