Policeman shot by drunks in Tondo

A Manila policeman was shot dead after he tried to pacify a group of rowdy drunks inside a restaurant in Tondo, Manila early yesterday morning.

The victim, Police Officer 2 Rizaldy Decena, was detailed with the Dagupan-Ilaya police community precinct of the Western Police District Morga, Tondo (Station 2) and resident of 297 Sandico St., Tondo.

Investigation showed that Decena was on his way home at about 1 a.m. when he decided to drop by at the King Dragon restaurant at the corner of Juan Luna and Padre Rada streets in Tondo.

Decena was having his late dinner when he noticed the four noisy suspects at a nearby table. According to reports, Decena approached the group, introduced himself as a policeman and requested that they behave themselves.

However, instead of obeying his request, the suspects suddenly ganged-up on him forcing him to draw his 9 mm service pistol. But the sight of the gun did not deter the suspects who dragged him outside of the restaurant. There, the suspects continued beating him up. Then one of the suspects grabbed Decena’s gun and shot him. – Mike Frialde
