CEBU, Philippines - Lapu-Lapu City barangay leaders say uncooperative residents are partly to be blamed for uncollected garbage.
Some of these leaders, who had received citations by the Solid Waste Management Office, are facing cases in the Prosecutor’s Office for their failure to address the garbage problem in the city.
The leaders said some residents just can’t seem to kick their bad habits including the wrong way of disposing of their garbage.
Signs that say “No Dumping of Garbage Here” are often defied, they said.
Leo Mercado, barangay captain of Pajo and president of the Association of Barangay Councils, said garbage trucks that are out of commission also are part of the problem.
But Mayor Paz Radaza said the city government, if informed, will immediately extend assistance to barangay leaders who find themselves in a tight spot. (FREEMAN)
