Urban poor federation readies cash assistance

CEBU, Philippines - Talisay City’s urban poor federation is set to implement the bereavement fund which provides financial assistance to members who have died.

The guidelines of “Abag Kabanay Program” is set to be approved in the next meeting of the Federation of Talisay City Urban Dwellers Association, Inc. (FETCUDA), said Alex Gabi, the group’s secretary.

Under the program’s guidelines, the family of a recognized FETCUDA member or his/her legal spouse, who have died, is entitled to receive P10 from each of the organization’s more than 6,000 members as burial assistance.

The funds will be taken from the members’ contribution.

City Councilor Dennis Basillote, chairman on council committee on the Urban Poor, said P90,000 will be a big help to the dead member’s bereaved family.

Basillote conceptualized the idea December last year when the city’s urban poor celebrated its annual solidarity week.

The councilor has also assured the members that his office will give its counterpart to Fetcuda’s.  (FREEMAN)
