Rob suspect in Talisay shot, in critical condition

-

CEBU, Philippines - A 23-year-old robbery suspect, who tried to save his friend from an attacker, was shot yesterday dawn in sitio Didos, barangay Linao, Talisay City.

Henry Gaudiano alias “Negro,” a resident of barangay Soong, Lapu-Lapu City, sustained a gunshot wound on his right temple, and an exit wound in the left temple.

He was taken to the Talisay District Hospital but was immediately transferred to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center in Cebu City, where he was said to be in critical condition as of this writing.

Gaudiano, his friend Roldan Perez, 19, and a minor companion, from barangay Bolinawan, Carcar City, were in sitio Didos yesterday for the fiesta.

The incident happened shortly after Gaudiano, Perez, the minor, and another friend named Melvin Bacalia, 18, of sitio Didos, emerged from a disco.

According to police, prior to the incident, four unidentified men had a verbal altercation with Perez, and later on beat him.

As soon as Guadiano and the rest of Perez’s group saw what was happening they immediately joined the fighting. Barangay tanods in the area quickly intervened.

As Gaudiano and his friends were walking away from the disco area, an unidentified man hit Perez, sending him to the ground.

When Perez attempted to hit back, the culprit aimed his gun at him and fired.

But Perez lowered himself so that the bullet hit Gaudiano instead.

Meanwhile, Linao barangay chief Fe Ylanan said she believes that the incident could be fraternity-related, as there have been reports of such cases in her village.

She asked the police to solve the case quickly before the other group retaliates as fraternities are wont to do.

She also appealed to city hall to install lights along the road in Linao especially that crimes usually happen at night. (FREEMAN)
