Bombs to be used in Landing's reenactment

CEBU, Philippines - Talisay City will celebrate the 67th Landing anniversary with a bang, literally.

Members of the Naval Forces Central (Navforcen) were seen rehearsing yesterday the morning battle which happened almost 67 years ago in barangay Poblacion.

The whole exercise, complete with explosives and other war gear, will be viewed by the public on the shores of Poblacion the early morning of March 26.

Ensign Joseph Ison of the NAVFORCEN said that every year they always try to give a better presentation, noting that the reenactment is one of the highlights of the commemoration of the landing.

Two of NAVFORCEN’s gun boats will be used, namely, the Auxiliary Transport 291 Barko ng Republika ng Pilipinas (BRP) Subanon and the Patrol Gunboat 140 BRP Heneral Emilio Aguinaldo.

Rubber boats will also be used to transport the American and Filipino soldiers to the shores, where the battle would take place.

Ison said the Philippine Army Explosive Ordinance will take charge of the explosives.

The Philippine Air Force will be dropping flowers from a chopper.

The 82nd Marine Battalion Reserve and the Talisay City College (TCC) Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) will also be tapped for this exercise.

Meanwhile, city administrator Richel Bacaltos said by virtue of RA 7280, the whole city will observe the landing anniversary as a special non-working holiday.  (FREEMAN)
