Talisay soon to require biz firms to set up CCTV

-

CEBU, Philippines - To prevent crimes from happening, all commercial establishments in Talisay City will soon be required to install closed circuit television (CCTV) systems.

This after the city council during its regular session last week approved on first reading an ordinance requiring them to put up “workable” CCTV systems in their respective premises.

“Whereas, to require the adoption and use of CCTV systems throughout the city and in order to intensify the city’s drive against criminality and to preserve visual footage as evidence, this august body deems it proper to institutionalize the use of CCTV systems in business establishments within the city,” read the ordinance.

The council has acknowledged that the use of CCTV cameras has been at the “forefront” of the crime fighting technologies, thereby “improving deterrence of crime to the recording of evidence of criminal activity.”

Once this new measure would be passed, all business establishments with a minimum capitalization of P1 million as per record submitted to the Business Permit and Licensing Office, will be required to have CCTVs.

Under Section 9 of this ordinance, it states that failure to comply this new law would mean penalties: warning for the first offense, a P2,500 for the second offense, and P5,000 for the third.

The law was authored by Vice Mayor Alan Bucao, chairman on committee on Peace and Order, Safety, Traffic Management and Public Utilities.
