CEBU, Philippines - A man, driven by jealousy, killed his live-in partner yesterday in their home at barangay Basak, Lapu-Lapu City after weeks of quarreling over a text message.
Neighbors heard their the couple's 9-year-old son screaming when he woke up at around 7 a.m. to find his mother dead.
The Lapu-Lapu City Police Office said Jennelyn Zozobrado, 26, sustained a stab wound on the chest that caused her instant death.
During an ocular inspection police theorized the woman might have been stabbed with the bloodied screwdriver that was found in the house.
Her live-in partner, Arvin Empanado, 31, a barber by profession, was not at home when the police arrived.
Police said the couple had been quarreling for days on end and the wife beaten because of the text message "I LOVE YOU" he had read in his wife's phone.
Zozobrado works as a laundrywoman and Empanado stays at home where he has set up a barbershop, police said.
Police said Empanado started to become violent after learning from neighbors that Zozobrado was planning to leave him.
