Woman arrested for attempt to smuggle "shabu" into jail

CEBU, Philippines - A woman who visited a detainee at the Lapu-Lapu City jail was arrested yesterday afternoon after getting caught in the act of trying to smuggle in alleged shabu found in 102 small packs.

Nanette Veloso, 43, of barangay Cambaro, Mandaue City was was to visit her boyfriend Danny Limotan who is being detained for robbery.

JO1 Josie Danas noticed Veloso holding a red handkerchief with her, and when inspected the handkerchief yielded four plastic packs where the 102 packs placed. Each pack commands P200 in the streets.

Veloso denied owning the substance and alleged it was handed over to her by a man outside the premises of the city jail.

She said she was instructed to leave the stuff at a makeshift house inside the jail where somebody will pick it up.

Veloso was turned over yesterday afternoon to the Lapu-Lapu City police office for the filing of charges against her.

In another development, a detainee at the Lapu-Lapu City Police Office holding cell was brought to hospital for difficulty in breathing and high blood pressure.

Allan Berdin, 42, married, and a resident of barangay Canjulao was detained for illegal gambling.

Berdin was on his third day of detention and was about to be released from jail yesterday morning when he suddenly began vomiting.

A jail guard immediately called ERUF which took him to the Lapu-Lapu City Hospital where he is currently recuperating. (FREEMAN)
