"Killer" surrenders

CEBU, Philippines - A man, who hid in the seawater underneath the GMC wharf in barangay Pajo, Lapu-Lapu City after allegedly killing a drinking buddy, emerged from the water when the temperature rose yesterday dawn.

Lino Canete, 50, of sitio Seaside in barangay Pajo, Lapu-Lapu, surrendered to the Unified Task Force and policemen who waited for him for five hours.

The Homicide Section of the Lapu-Lapu City Police Office said that prior to the incident Canete was drinking with four of his neighbors Wednesday evening.

When two of his neighbors went home, Canete and a certain Jusing continued drinking.

Homicide said the two men started arguing when Jusing allegedly refused to heed Canete's request to buy more liquor. Canete allegedly pulled out a gun and shot Jusing, Homicide said.
