CEBU, Philippines - Naga City Jail warden Senior Inspector Genesis Mongcopa yesterday denied allegations that relatives of Bella Ruby Santos, one of the suspects in the killing of 6-year-old Ellah Joy Pique, are sending food to jail personnel.
"There's no basis for that report. I have warned my men to refuse anything given by Santos' relatives," said Mongcopa.
Mongcopa said the city jail has its own budget for its personnel, hence, there's no need to accept dole outs from anyone, apart from the fact that it is unethical.
"Sila duna sila'y special needs (mga inmates), pero wala silay special treatment… pareho nato duna silay special needs pero in terms of VIP treatment wala sila," Mongcopa said.
By special needs the jail warden referred to the psychological needs of every inmate.
Mongcopa said since Santos arrived at the Naga City jail two days ago, she has complied with the policies there, contrary to reports. Santos is one of four inmates who occupy a cell meant for two, he said.
For security reasons, the city jail warden had denied media personnel an interview with Santos. (FREEMAN)
