CEBU, Philippines - The Lapu-Lapu City government will fast tract the implementation of the city's Comprehensive Drainage Master Plan designed to manage the city's runoff water due to rapid urbanization.
Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Paz Radaza said the city does not have rivers and streams that can cause flooding but there is a need for the city government to address the drainage problem due to the city's increasing development.
Some barangays which have encountered problems with the drainage include barangays Agus, Marigondon, Basak, Gun-ob, Poblacion, Pajo, Pusok, and Ibo.
As of now, we have implemented, albeit phase by phase, 20 percent of the Comprehensive Drainage Master Plan, Radaza said.
Radaza said the complete implementation of the plan will minimize, if not totally solve, the drainage problem in the city.
Radaza said the city government has quality infrastructures that create healthy investments and a business-friendly environment.
Radaza said that with the support of the city council, 40 projects are being implemented with a total contract cost of P134 million of which 25 projects have been completed.
Most of the projects fall under "Concreting of Roads and Building Constructions." (FREEMAN)
