Consolacion allots P1M for scholars

CEBU, Philippines - Consolacion town has set aside close to P1 million for its scholarship program.

Mayor Teresa Alegado said the program is for students who cannot afford a college education owing to financial constraints.

The mayor said that tuition and allowances for books and transportation amount to P704,000.

Starting this school year, fifteen scholars are enrolled at Consolacion Community College, she said.

These scholars receive P2,000 for their books per semester.

Aside from the scholarship program, Alegado said the municipal government is also upgrading the town's education facilities.

She said the town gave a counterpart of P725,000.00 for the five classrooms that were constructed for the Consolacion Community College and five classrooms for Consolacion National High School.

New classrooms have also been built for barangay Pulpogan and barangay Cansaga, a classroom in barangay Lanipga has been renovated, while two classrooms for barangay Sacsac would be built.

The improvement of the existing school facilities include those of Consolacion Central School grounds at P200,000.

The town spent P104,000 to improve a day care center in barangay Cansaga, P361,000 to rehabilitate the Pulpogan Elementary School fence, P194,000 for the riprap and repair of a Lanipga Elementary School classroom. (FREEMAN)
