Paz blames DPWH, road contractor for traffic jams
CEBU, Philippines - Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Paz Radaza yesterday blamed the contractor of the ongoing rehabilitation of the Mayor Maximo V. Patalingjug Avenue and officials of the Department of Public Works and Highways for the inconvenience the project is causing the riding public.
Radaza said had the contractor and DPWH officials coordinated with her office, gridlocks that build up on the avenue could have been averted.
Commuters from Lapu-Lapu City and Mandaue City that drive through the Mandaue-Mactan Bridge get stuck in the traffic for hours.
When Mayor Radaza confronted DPWH officials, they claimed they work closely with the officials of the City Traffic Management Office and the police.
Radaza said the contractor is also to be blamed for starting work on the road at 7 a.m. when a large volume of vehicles use the avenue.
Radaza said the area also lacks traffic signs.
"Problema man gud kay diha ra duol sa taytayan ang ilang gisugdan man nga nakasinati gayud kita sa problema sa trapiko," Radaza said.
Radaza said DPWH should have taken steps to inform the public about the project. - THE FREEMAN
