Man wanted for drug-dealing arrested

CEBU, Philippines - A man wanted for drugs was finally arrested in sitio Lub-ang, barangay Casuntingan, Mandaue City yesterday dawn.

Sherwin Macalipay, 30, single, was involved in a shootout late last year when a City Anti-Illegal Drugs (CAID) unit tried but failed to arrest him for selling illegal drugs said Insp. Ramil Morpos, deputy chief of Investigation and Detection Management Branch (IDMB) in Mandaue City Police Office (MCPO).

Morpos said only Macalipay's live-in-partner, Mae Eskoto, was arrested at that time since she too sold illegal drugs.

The police immediately checked their records after receiving reports that Macalipay had been alleged to have been involved in robberies and burglaries in the city. They found out the man has a pending warrant of arrest for drug dealing issued by Judge Silvestre Maamo Jr. of Regional Trial Court, Branch 55 last June 28, 2010.

Macalipay was arrested near his home while having a drink with friends who are identified with the street gangs "Bloods" and "Crips."

Macalipay and his friends are being detained in Casuntingan police station. – (FREEMAN)
