CEBU, Philippines - Liloan Mayor Vincent Franco "Duke" Frasco yesterday said he expects barangay tanods to help the police against all forms of criminality now that they already receive P1,000 in honorarium from the town.
In a talk with The FREEMAN, Mayor Frasco said after consulting with barangay captains, he asked the municipal council to allocate funds for barangay tanods.
Frasco said Liloan is a first class municipality of Cebu province, but with limited number of policemen.
Barangay officials said the tanods' honorarium depends on the revenues the barangays make.
In small barangays, a tanod receives as low as P500 while big barangay can afford to an honorarium as high as P1,500.
Leo Salundaguit, president of the Association of Barangay Councils in Liloan welcomed the honorarium.
Salundaguit said it will certainly be a big help to the tanods.
