Silver linings playbook

MANILA, Philippines – In today’s Look of the Week discover our YStyle woman as she undergoes a modern makeover care of Maison Martin Margiela’s diffusion line MM6 Maison Margiela.

With a line that focuses solely on creating quality clothing that doesn’t compromise on originality and comfort, MM6’s spring 2016 collection relives the industrial techno scene of London in 30 eclectic looks. The retro-futuristic collection is a mashup of opulence and street that depicts the rebellious spirit of the creative community in London. While a number of models sported pussybows and dresses that were constructed from plastic bags, it was the reflective leather on a classic white two-piece that made an impact despite its simple style. John Galliano takes us on an eccentric rollercoaster ride that involves glitter gloves and heaps of inspiration from the underground club scene.

From her beauty look to her clock of choice, there’s no denying that metallic is having a major moment and it’s up to you whether you’re up for it or not.

HOME: Kanari Skelock Clock

Refine your four walls with a clock that matches your style and has a distinct shape.

The Skelock links interaction and movement between space and time in different environments. Depending on the setting, the clock casts different silhouettes, creating shadow play like no other. Available in matte black, rose gold and gold, you definitely can’t go wrong with a purchase like this.

BEAUTY: Delpozo spring 2016

Here’s everything you need to know about Delpozo’s beauty look this season — it’s shiny, shimmery and splendid.

Inspired by the wild beauty and intelligence of modern women, makeup artist Monica Marmo paints fresh skin comparable to a flower and metallic eyes for a little controversy. Using MAC cosmetics, Marmo added shine to the highest points of the face using shell cream color base to give dimension to the models fresh skin. For the eyes, she piled on glitter using MAC’s mixing medium eyeliner as a base in order for the glitter to adhere to the lids. She then finished off the look by adding a flush of color to the cheeks using lipstick.

NIGHTLIFE: OHM, Berlin

Put on your dancing shoes as our YStyle woman gives you the lowdown on a club where she likes to spend her late nights and early mornings.

Located in the center of techno music, OHM used to be the battery room of an abandoned power plant on the Köpenicker industrial strip in Berlin. Despite being small, the nightclub still holds its own for its culturally rich and experimental electronic party scene. A great hub for those who want nothing more than to dance endlessly to electrifying music or an escape from the snotty Berghain bouncers.

FILM: Der Nachtmahr

“Coming of age can be a nightmare… It is intense, dangerous and often cruel,” according to Berlin-based artist AKIZ whose art and short film works have been backed by the likes of Banksy and David Lynch.

In his self-described narcotic melodrama, Der Nachtmahr, the director electrifies his stroboscopic flashes with a loud techno soundtrack that blasts throughout the film. The hallucinatory trip brings to the forefront 17-year-old Tina who starts experiencing horrific visions at a wild techno party and is convinced that a creepy creature is haunting her. With Kim Gordon of Sonic Youth onboard this micro-budget film, AKIZ is onto something good — we suggest you watch it pronto.

NAILS: Noon by Noor spring 2016

Negative nails continue to woo us with minimalistic contemporary design.

Lead manicurist Gina Edwards began the nail art with neatly filed nails. She then proceeded to create a line on the outside of each nail using a metallic silver shade to modernize the look. Seal everything with a topcoat for that extra shine.

ACCESSORIES: Ted Meuhling

Brighten things up in the accessory department with these statement sterling silver turret shell earrings from Ted Meuhling that come in a range of shades.

Now, if you’re feeling a bit risqué and you just want to add a bit of edge to your look, then skip wearing the earrings as a pair and sport a single earring. It’s time to embrace the power of one, ladies.

LIFESTYLE: ROE 250gm

Caviar is a delicacy that will tickle your fancy and is also considered an aphrodisiac — wait till you try this.

Available exclusively during the months of November and December, Roe caviar comes from (decidedly rare) white sturgeon. The 250mg tin is handcrafted using techniques mastered through generations of experience and contains no preservatives unlike European caviars that contain borax. Only very fine salt is used to preserve the flavor of the white sturgeon caviar that will stay fresh for six weeks if stored properly.

REGIME: Mauli Himalayan Healing Salts

Restore balance and peace with this bath salt that’s a multi-layered blend of Himalayan Pink Salts infused with 13 therapeutic oils. Apart from the key elements, the mixture includes soothing powdered rose quartz crystals that can ultimately send you into a deep sleep.

It is ideal to use the scrub once or twice a week and it is also recommended while traveling to help with jetlag — a plus in our YStyle woman’s books.

BAG: Loewe spring 2016

Translucent accessories are all the rage this season and this number from Loewe has got us running to the nearest boutique.

Emerging as a micro-trend, the puzzle bag focuses on texture and transparency making it a highly covetable bag in the world of a retro-futuristic woman. While the bag proves to make life easier for us women who have to dig deep for our favorite lipstick, the silhouette remains a classic and should be on your wish list.
