Philippine Fashion Week Review: menswear collection: Inspired street style invades the menswear runway

MANILA, Philippines - The runway offered interesting alternatives to the usual suspects of shirts, jeans and jackets for nearly every type of guy. For spring/summer, many designers presented a rather subdued collection by Fashion Week standards, and concentrated on colors and prints. Anthony Nocom created resortwear, some evoking a remixed Filipiniana aesthetic, in relaxed shapes and neutrals from sand to chocolate. Slim and fitted is the theme for the suit, with M Barretto showing slim-cut prints suits and pants cropped at the ankle; Odelon Simpao using the same light-painted patterns in a predominantly rich palette of purples and mustards. Jeffrey Rogador dressed up preppy classics and pale khakis with wide-shouldered, voluminous jackets. Sportswear was given a fresh update, courtesy of Bang Pineda and his boxy jackets in day-glo pleather and a crisp — not drab — overall gray palette; and Ulysses King, who also used gray to ground a collection of athletic wear that actually look like they were made for sweating in.
