Riding the wave of graphic suits

MANILA, Philippines - Amid the flurry of planning summer getaways and scheduling fake bake nights (we hear group self-tanning sessions are starting to become a thing), it’s also time for the dreaded swimsuit shopping expedition — when observing cellulite spots under bulimia-inducing fluorescent light becomes part of the process.

Thankfully there’s plenty of swimwear that can make any bod look hot. Graphic patterned pieces that draw the eye or bold embellishment like studs and oversize stones are plentiful this season. For summer 2010, swimwear labels are putting emphasis on styles that are feminine but not missish. Fantasizer embraces the curvy figure, transforming bandeau cuts into sexy sophisticated suits. Brazilian label Despi updates the bikini with rock ‘n’ roll studs. Eberjay playfully adopts classic patterns reincarnated to feel fresher. The typical polka dot bikini gets revamped in pastels. Florals get cute in yellow and white. Tigerlily churned out texture and print, like checkerboard patterns, Moroccan-inspired prints and texture that mimicked netting on a triangle bikini.

The only element that ties these looks together? None of these suits are designed for the wallflower. The swimwear you see here is meant to make you the center of attention — whether you’re sipping Mai Tais poolside or suit shopping with a bunch of girlfriends.
