MANILA, Philippines - We all have heard of “lunchtime peels” — gross as it may sound, it’s the way to go for New Yorkers who want to clock in some “me” time for a supposedly better, brighter complexion. From that, it then quickly evolved into injecting Botox, fillers or whatever it is to make you look perennially shocked. (Ever wonder why your boss looks like that after a supposed two-hour lunch? Now you know.)
State-of-the-art technology has further progressed to slimming treatments (yes, we’re still in the course of discussing one-hour procedures). And no, we’re not talking about the most invasive form of cruelty known to mankind (which has caused deaths, by the way) called liposuction. Dr. Mylah Joven heads the Mikaela Advanced Aesthetic Clinic, along with a group of doctors who are dedicated to make the Philippines a more beautiful country, one person at a time. One slimming treatment in particular, the Dynamic-Lipo, is probably one of man’s greatest inventions.
The Dynamic-Lipo utilizes low-frequency ultrasound waves (at 30 to 60 KHz at a carrier frequency of 1MHz), and its cavitational (fat-melting process) effect reduces the fatty layers of the body and — get this — cellulite. Here’s how it works, in layman’s terms: ultrasound waves that form minute bubbles within the fat cells, eventually cause their rupture (cavitational effect). The vacuum action of the hand-piece ensures that only your fat, and not your other internal organs, are targeted. Like balloons that burst, the liquified fat and fatty waste are channeled to the lymphatic system and eliminated naturally by the body.
The treatment also has an added feature of immediate lymph-drainage from the treated area (since it’s Christmas, all bets are on the tummy area) to speed up the fat removal via the lymphatic system. Results may vary from patient to patient, but one can expect a four- to eight-inch loss overall and a significant smoothening of the area with cellulite. Isolated cases in the clinic have shown a 20-pound loss in two weeks. This is easily achieved because Dynamic-Lipo treatments are coupled with a sensible diet and some physical activity (take it easy on the lechon and walk off the holiday calories!). Those who are pregnant, have diabetes, tumors, heart disease and the like are not allowed to have the procedure done. Other than that, you can just easily breeze in on, say, your lunch break. Ideal candidates are those who have localized fat deposits in the abdomen, thighs and arms, but those with more are still welcome to enroll in the program. And speaking of, don’t expect to come in and out with that instant result; although you may already see a difference from the first session, results will really come out after two weeks, after a series of sessions. All you need is utmost dedication by sticking to the schedule. And just because you’re undergoing the program does not give you the license to pig out.
There is absolutely no down time after each procedure. The most you’ll feel is some warmth over the treated area. Nonetheless, the machine is operator-dependent; so just make sure to inform the nurses if the heat is too much for you to bear. It is also recommended that you thoroughly hydrate yourself by drinking lots of water to speed up your body’s metabolic process, thus, eliminating the fat waste. As compared to liposuction, the Dynamic-Lipo is completely safe. There is no risk from surgery in general, possible complications from anesthesia and fat embolism from conventional liposuction. It’s much cheaper (they’re offering a 50-percent discount on the service for the whole month of December) and you definitely won’t be able to remove that smile off your face after you complete the treatment.
