MANILA, Philippines - The words Sydney and fashion, when put together, have always been some kind of contradictory beast. Maybe it’s due to the topsy-turvy nature of the continent-state and the fact that it’s pretty far flung on the globe, but Australian style always walked the catwalk to the beat of a different DJ. Designer Alex Perry at last week’s Sydney Fashion Week showed a wide range of designs that relied on many classic shapes, from slinky shiny gowns to super short frou-frou cocktail dresses.
They were all feminine, sexy, yet relatively restrained in honor of the economic climate.
The most interesting outfit and the one that seems in step with global trends was the final one worn by Tahnee Atkinson, winner of Australia’s Next Top Model.
The sexy reality show star looked like she was about to burst out of the metallic corseted mini dress with architectural shoulders, but it’s also refreshing to see that Sydney’s got boobs. — Audrey Carpio
