Geometry lesson

Clean is good for the soul and body. It is also making a super comeback in fashion. Forget the protozoan blobs of yore, if there’s anything to be learned from the present financial crisis, things must make sense. So go for no-nonsense dresses that fight the blah and stalk the wow.

As entrancing candied confections may be they are also symbols of extravagance, something that no longer exists in our fashion lexicon. Austere need not mean boring, regal and distinct are adjectives to vie for.

Marlon Rivera’s exciting collection is a child of pomp (lack of) and circumstance. A sexy but restrained array that would please Wallis Simpson. “I’m obsessed with structures and organizing lines but when it’s expressed in design I want it to feel organic,” says the designer.

His approach is severe with a feminine touch. “My clothes have simple shapes but when you put them on a woman, her curves soften the lines, the hems start to move.” The symbiotic relationship of design and function in Marlon’s clothes make them one of the more exciting  collections to date.

Although at the end of the day, ad man Marlon knows it’s all about the woman. ” Clothes should not define a woman, women should redefine any and all designer’s creation according to her style and styling choices.”

A mad man has spoken.
