The science of skin

Dermalogica and Murad, two very trusted and technical names in professional skin care, have opened their very own boutique spas at Rustan’s. Dermalogica, known for its no-nonsense packaging and focus on “skin health” rather than cosmetic beauty, developed a Face Mapping skin analysis system that decodes your skin, zone by zone. My friend once had his face mapped, and the Dermalogica therapist proclaimed him to have “happy genitals” but “unhappy lungs,” and prescribed a skin regimen based on these discoveries. (I told him to just stop smoking.)

First timers can try out the Basic Skincare Treatment at the Dermalogica Spa, which involves a professional double cleanse, the signature Face Mapping, exfoliation, extraction, masque, hydration and solar defense for P995. More advanced treatments combine Dermalogica’s super intense exfoliant accelerator with their professional- strength exfoliants, thoroughly removing dull surface debris and stimulating skin cell renewal.

Murad takes the science factor even further. The brand is the first to be named after a dermatologist. Dr. Murad himself has developed and patented several skincare breakthroughs such as “The Cellular Water Principle.” The Murad Medi-Spa offers facial treatments like the vitamin C Infusion Facial, which employs a powerful formulation of pure Vitamin C to restore elasticity, firmness and even out skin tone; and the signature AHA Facial which uses concentrated glycolic acid to exfoliate away dead skin cells, diminishing the appearance of fine lines.
