MANILA, Philippines - When I was in high school, the best cheerdance mixes sampled tracks from Fergie’s debut album “The Dutchess.” Everyone wanted to be Fergalicious — which was fine, but that might be uncool now. The last University Athletics Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Cheerdance Competition, which National University won for the third consecutive time, featured the 2014 version of the peppy songs that have always made it to these types of contests. Surely, Katy Perry isn’t the only cheerdance-friendly artist out there?
That said, we got Jam 88.3 DJ Lambert Cruz to give us an alternative cheerdance playlist; it’s cheerdance music for folks who hate cheerdance, if you will. It’s an interesting selection that features EDM duo Disclosure to Sheffield natives Arctic Monkeys, but are nonetheless dance-worthy.
Lambert himself admits that he’s not quite sure why he selected all the songs, but assures us that they “give the right vibes and attitude.” Given all the cool music he’s introduced us to on-air, we think that’s a good enough reason to listen.
