Answer the summer siren’s call

No need to bust out a DIY itinerary; for a summer to remember, one need not look further than the 2014 Summer Siren Festival.

MANILA, Philippines - We know what you’re thinking: with summer fast approaching, your mind is focused on the kilometric backlog of television shows you’ll be watching while your butt is parked on the couch. But is that really how you’re going to memorialize this summer? ‘Course not.

No need to bust out a DIY itinerary; for a summer to remember, one need not look further than the 2014 Summer Siren Festival. From April 4 to 6, the Crystal Beach Resort in San Narciso, Zambales will be transformed into what its organizers call a “themed playground of beach, play, and party.” If those words alone don’t pump you up, then you’re gonna need a defibrillator.

But okay, you need more convincing. The festival seems to be allergic to the idea of downtime, because there are round-the-clock activities that will put the word “smorgasbord” to shame.

To anyone not inclined to listen to the soulful sounds of Up Dharma Down or Franco (do people like that even exist?) or the impressive roundup of local acts, there’ll be beach games for anyone who’d like to show off all their hard work at the gym. Yoga and CrossFit are available if you’re down for a bit of zen and masochism, even poi and hula hoop classes — all in the presence of crisp beach air.

Summer Siren offers both regular and VIP day passes, but for anyone whose mind is on the party, packages for every budget are also available. Along with Travel Factor, the Festival even offers the Adventure Camp package, which is BYOT — Bring Your Own Tent, that is — for those who are game to go rock ‘n’ roll.

Tempting as it is to finish up the latest season of The Big Bang Theory, the Summer Siren Festival has called. With its endless activities, insane musical lineup, and gorgeous beachfront setting, maybe it’s time to answer. — Margarita Buenaventura
