MANILA, Philippines - Britania Art Projects Gallery presents “Stories from the Sandlot,” a two-man show by Mael de Guzman and Abby Yao, opens on June 6, at 6 p.m. The gallery is located at Tesoro Corner Complex, New York Ave. corner Sgt. Catolos St., Cubao, Quezon City.
The artists use monochrome palettes in the oil medium, presenting otherwise colorful scenes in a stark manner. De Guzman takes a smooth photorealist approach in portraying random scenes in a child’s life, while Yao uses the palette knife to give her figures a rough edge. In their contrasting renderings of children as larger-than-life characters, both artists ask where happiness lies, whether it is in the objects they possess or in the company of others.
“Stories from the Sandlot” is on view until June 25. For details, call 414-7446, SMS 0917-8070327 or 0917-5710468.
