Hot child in the city

I once read that in the clothing industry you should only make what you would wear, so I try to make things that I really like but I also need to keep others in mind whose taste and styles may vary from mine," shares Wendy Puyat-Hotung of Lily, the cult clothing line that churns out unabashedly feminine and sophisticated pieces in luxurious brocade.

Lily, which started out two years ago, now includes four stores (Glorietta 4, Rockwell Lifestyle Floor, Rustan’s Makati and Edsa Shangri-La), and has grown from being simply a small collection of brocade-coated confections such as notebooks to clever tops, to a candy factory of girly dreams. The look is a fusion of Chinoiserie chic and French glam, since Wendy herself lived in Paris for seven years and in Shanghai for a year. Whoever said the East Hot trend is gone may have just been a victim of unimaginative interpretations.

Lily, this season, offers the must-have wedge espadrilles, an assortment of romantic and draped tops, tailored long shorts with quirky details, vests, brocade hot pants and sexy belts. The look is consistently classic, since it never goes out of style. "Although people are always looking for what’s new, we keep our styles classic with a twist so I feel they never look ‘last season’ and in fact can come in and out of your closet anytime and fit right in," Wendy says.

So for a fix of glam for a sweltering summer, you can never go wrong wrapping yourself in some juicy silk!
