The Cosmo tale

Known for its fun, fearless and fabulous tales from the female population of the Philippines, Cosmopolitan magazine hosted the premiere of HBO’S Sex and the City. The jamboree was held at Dream@6750 where video walls were installed to view the first three episode of season six. At the gathering, they featured a sneak preview of the upcoming Cosmo hunks as they willingly participated in naughty games prepared by the ladies from Cosmopolitan. The screaming and cheering from the ladies energized the whole joint, which made it a night of empowerment.

Of course, everyone knows Sex and the City is the tale of four females from New York. Their experiences and issues are not unfamiliar to the Filipinas – which explains why the show has gained such a huge following in our country. The show has reached so many women because of its frank discussion of sex and relationships. The show has even found a market with the male audience. They present female concerns that give the male viewer a better understanding of how women feel and think.

And speaking of which–how can one talk about issues relevant to dating? Conversations with my friend DJ Montano –- along with some tips he thoughtfully supplied – helped me understand the maze and the games one must go through in today’s dating scene. Luckily, I was among fearless and empowered females of the city at the recent Cosmopolitan event at Dream@6750. They shared tips on how the dating game is played. By the end of the night, they screamed these words to me: Let the games begin!

SHARON ATILLO

How do you make your first date call you within 24 hours?

I will purposely leave my party tiara in his car. I am known for leaving my stuff anyway!

JENNIFER FELICIANO

What will make you include your blind date’s number in your mobile phone?

He can be included in my phone book if I like him, and if he makes me laugh, since I always appreciate a sense of humor. It’s also important that a connection is established. And when the level of comfort is established, he can be my potential boyfriend, friend or business associate depending on the flow.

ANA KALAW

How would you style your virgin best friend for her first date?

I’d make her wear a simple and respectable little black dress, nice and respectable heeled sandals, and simple makeup for the first date. I’d reserve the tight micro-mini, red stilettos, tousled hair and glossy lips for her second date.

GINGER CO

If you don’t KISS on the first date, when do you do it?

Hmmm... Silence is golden when you can’t think of a good answer!

CORINNE CHING

On your first date, is it his place or yours?

Nobody’s place. First dates should never end up in any one’s place!

FE MIR

Which cocktail should your date order for you?

I’d want my date to order me a Gilbey’s tonic because I always enjoy a drink and date that is refreshing – with low expectations.

DONNA CUNA PITA

What characteristic should a straight man learn from a gay man?

The courage to go beyond the striped shirt and jeans combo, the effortless charm and wit, the endurance to go shopping with girls during an all-night sale and knowing that skin care is not just about safeguard and water!

BARBIE PARDO

When is a man good for steady dating, without getting into a committed relationship?

Only time can tell if the guy you’re seeing is the real deal or if he’s just putting his best foot forward. Initial thrills always fade. Character reveals itself over time and experience.

IANNE EVANGELISTA

Does size really matter?

Yeah! Size definitely matters. No one likes a samurai with a stubby sword!

MARIEL CHUA

Can you trust a gay man’s date recommendation?

Yes, of course! They often give great, no-nonsense advice when it comes to men and dating, plus they have an uncanny way of knowing who is perfect for me.

GEM PADILLA

When does being playful begin to lose its fun?

It is not fun anymore when your partner does not respond to your playfulness. You also lose when the relationship is going nowhere and ends up hurting the person you love.
