Welcome to Retromanila

Thirtysomethings have come home. They had been orphaned by the metro nightlife. Young, crowded clubs or ballroom dancing are not their thing. When retro-themed events were offered, they came out of hiding and let their hair down. Now even the Gen-Xers are joining in the no-holds-barred night following their older counterparts. Will this be a fad or a regular offering in Manila?

Check out the weekly retro events featuring DJs or live bands with ‘80s or ‘90s music:

• DecaDance at Dreambar@6750, Fridays and Cuervo ‘90s Anthems, Saturdays

• Famarue at Ice Vodka, Fridays

• Temple, Fridays

• Teak on January 31 and alternating Saturdays thereafter

• Wasabi, Saturdays

• Icon special events at V Bar, schedule to be announced

• Rockin Revival at Dish, Tuesdays

• ‘80s Music at Bed, Wednesdays

• 8 Track Retro Band at Chef and Brewer Ortigas, Wednesdays

• Flashdance ‘80s Music at Flute, Thursdays

A new addition is the weekly ‘90s night that was launched at Dreambar last Saturday. With New Year of the Monkey as a theme, Cuervo Tequila transformed the venue into a forest of the animal’s habitat. It was Chinese-Filipino friendship day with dancers in both the local Ati-atihan and dragon themes snaking their way around the Glorietta circle while the ‘90s music of James McCrannie kept the crowd on its feet.
