Pinay Looks

The young Pinay beauty is difficult to describe. In this age of globalization, the Pinay look has metamorphosed into one highly influenced by several types of beauty, infused with the one thing that makes them undeniably Pinay. And that is the radiant charm and warmth she possesses.

Whatever look you have, don’t worry. You are beautiful! It’s just a matter of bringing out that allure. Remember, there is beauty in honesty. So don’t try to look like someone you’re not. Enhance instead of repair. Here are a few beauty tips that will surely allow you to see the diverse nature of the Pinay beauty.

CHINITA

Chinky eyes, pearl-like skin, narrow bone structure, and deep Oriental features characterize the look of a Chinese-Filipina. Her beauty is subtle and her aura is meek. This fine character in her look is what makes her beguiling and intriguing. Makeup artist Krist Bansuelo suggests, "For the Chinitas, don’t try to look like a caucasian. The Oriental look is so beautiful. Don’t widen the eyes. Don’t strengthen the features. Just highlight and enhance the already beautiful Oriental features. That’s the trend for the Chinese-looking Filipinas these days."

BEAUTY TIPS:

Since most Chinese-Filipinas have already beautiful skin, the key is to simply let it breathe. Show off that supple skin!

Conceal imperfections. Since there’s really no need for a strong coverage, simply dab concealer over spots and around the dark circles. Spread evenly so it doesn’t look cakey. For this skin type, try MAC Concealer C35.

Frost-colored eyeshadows bring out the chinky eyes more. Go for that! Don’t be afraid to look too chinita. Instead, celebrate that unique feature. Don’t abide by the stereotypical concepts of beauty. Shape and accentuate the eyes. Try Chanel 96 Aquarelles. Curl lashes to liven up the look.

Chinese-Filipina women, in general, have thin lips. Pucker up, then. Put contrast to the look by adding strength to the lip area. This will perfectly enhance the subtle eye makeup. It will also add drama and sensuality to the face. Line the lips with a dark shade. Try MAC Plum Lipliner. Blend a lighter lip shade towards the inner lip. Try Shiseido M6. Finish it off with a gloss for that added glow. Try MAC Lip Glass.

MESTIZA

The Mestiza beauty is typically characterized by very strong and sharp features. Most Spanish-Filipinas have fair skin with reddish under- tones, sharp noses, deep-set eyes, and weak chins. The best thing about this beauty is that is has so much room for experimentation. "Play around with cool tones to avoid being pale. Use bright and light colors to bring out deep-set eyes," advises Bansuelo.

BEAUTY TIPS:

Use foundation that has a pinkish tone to cover freckles and other imperfections. This color creates continuity in skin. Using foundation with a warm undertone might make you look pasty. Try Shiseido UV White.

For lips, use pinkish shades for natural sun-kissed lips, like MAC Lip Glass in Poodle Pink.

Use color! Take advantage of this look’s flexibility. To accentuate eyes, try MAC Pigment Colour Powder in Violet. This will give the look added allure and mystery.

MORENA

Morenas
have very soft and sweet features. This is the most typical among all Filipina looks. Although she can be mistaken for Thai or Malay, the Morena-Filipina is best distinguished by the tan skin tone (mostly with yellow or orange undertones), fine features, and sparkling big eyes. "Use very natural makeup. Do not try to make yourself whiter by using foundation that doesn’t match the tone of your skin. Instead, be proud of your color," advises Bansuelo.

BEAUTY TIPS:

Blend foundation with skin tone. Try MAC Full Coverage NC45 to create a flawless effect.

For lips, use a shade that’s very natural like Clinique Nude. For that added boost, try MAC Lip Glass.

Endear with the eyes. To emphasize this beautiful feature, try Maybelline Full ’N Soft Mascara.

EXOTIC

When we hear the word exotic, we usually think of beauty that’s rare, easily distinguishable, and strong. The exotic look is very Filipina as well. This type of beauty is very alive and strong, not in terms of sharp features but in glow. Exotic beauties beam and their smiles are beguiling. According to Bansuelo, this beauty is the most fun to work with. "Use gold and brown tones. To achieve a natural glow, bronze up the whole face."

BEAUTY TIPS:

Let those eyes sparkle! Have smiling eyes by brightening them with Pro Palette Luminizer and open them by lining with Maybelline Budge Proof Eyeliner. And don’t forget to curl your lashes! It’s for that subtle, sensual, and friendly finish.

To accentuate full lips, use bronzers. Don’t put deep colors as this may make your lips look too big and pouty. Choose a shade that will compliment your skin tone and the color scheme you choose for your eyes. Your best bet are the nude tones.

Use foundation that is more on the orange shade to match skin tone. Try Mac Full Coverage NW40. Never make the mistake of going pink...you might end up looking too made up.

INDIAN

Olive skin, deep-set eyes, and chiseled features are trademarks of the Indian-Filipina beauty. Often described as one of the most mysterious beauty types, the Indian look hints of soulful enigma and spiritual intelligence. Regality and sensuality are common to this type. Bansuelo says, "The Indian-Filipina is my favorite mix. However, most Indian-Filipinas have thick eyebrows. Soften the look by cleaning the brow area and that’s it! Also make sure that the look is very natural. That’s the secret."

BEAUTY TIPS:

Apply light foundation on skin, making sure that you use the same shade as your skin tone. Try MAC C35. Just gently dab on top of pimples and other skin imperfections.

Color lips with the most natural shade, not too pink and not too brown either. Try Clinique Nude. Finish it off with lip gloss for that added shine!

Tame those tresses with Toni & Guy X-Wax to smooth out fly-aways.
