MANILA, Philippines - Guests can take their palates to a little adventure by daring to try the most deadly fish currently known in the world, the stonefish, available until Sept. 30 at Traders Hotel Manila’s Kitsho Japanese Restaurant and Sake Bar.
Stonefish, one of the most dangerous fish, has found its way to dinner plates. Its 13 poison-equipped spines can be fatal to human beings with just mere contact.
A master of camouflage, it resembles a rock and can live out of the sea for 24 hours. Once stepped on, it can cause excruciating pain, shock, paralysis or even death unless immediate medical attention is received.
It requires careful preparation, just like fugu — commonly known as puffer fish and the second most toxic fish in the world — which is also offered in Kitsho by the only licensed Japanese executive chef in the Philippines, Masahiro Mizumoto.
An expensive dish in Japan called okoze, stonefish is prepared and served as sashimi. When served raw, its poisonous fins and skin are removed and thoroughly cleaned. The body meat that remains is non-toxic and truly delicious. It has a chewy, sweet and exquisite taste that will definitely satisfy guests’ taste for adventure.
