The Institute for Foreign Study, Inc. (IFS) invites those interested in learning the Japanese language to its three-week Japanese Language and Cultural Immersion Program in Kanazawa this July, August and September.

The program is open to individuals 17 years old and above. Those interested in the July program must submit an application as soon as possible. Details are available from IFS with telephones 812-1187, 812-6229, 0917-3753293, 0906-309 6723.

Kanazawa, although a rich, lively city, has a lifestyle that is gentler and calmer than that of other big cities in Japan. It is about 200 kms. north of Kyoto and 400 kms. from Tokyo. The city is full of greenery and its charm and gentle atmosphere have led people to call it the "Jewel of the Sea of Japan." Kanazawa escaped destruction during WWII, and retains much of its heritage and the atmosphere of its glorious past. Because of its beauty and historic interest, Kanazawa is known as "Little Kyoto".

Among its best-known sights are the remains of Kanazawa Castle and the Kenrokuen Gardens which consists of 100,000 square meters of beautiful Japanese gardens with different features for each season.
European Programs
For those interested in Europe, there are cultural immersion programs in France and Spain. Available locations in France are Paris, Tours and Nice. In Spain, the choices are: Salamanca, Madrid, Barcelona, Sevilla and Granada. A Spanish language course with flamenco lessons is offered in Granada. Start dates are every Monday.
