What to do: Get your free comicS on Free Comic Book Day
MANILA, Philippines - Many popular comic books are being adapted to the big screen in spectacular ways, but most of us haven’t read the source material. This is your chance to change that as Fully Booked is holding its now-annual Free Comic Book Day, a whole day dedicated to… handing out free comics. You read that right. You don’t need to buy anything to receive your comic book. All you need to do is show up, fall in line, and choose one comic (or three in the BGC branch) of your choice. Free Comic Book Day is a global event as a way for artists to thank their fans for supporting them. Aside from free comics, all graphic novels and manga titles will be sold 20-percent off.
What to watch: ‘Ghost: The Musical’
Who can forget that iconic scene in the movie Ghost where Patrick Swayze suddenly appears from behind Demi Moore and they mold clay with Unchained Melody playing in the background? Now, we can get the chance to see it live as Atlantis Productions stages a local adaptation of Ghost: The Musical, which in turn was adapted from the 1990 film. Reviews from The New York Times and New York Daily News have noted its elaborate video imagery, light displays, and eye-popping tricks, which will definitely be a pleasant surprise to Manila’s theater scene. The songs are also worth noting, as they are written by Dave Stewart, who was one-half of Eurythmics, and Glen Ballard, who co-wrote Alanis Morissette’s Jagged Little Pill. Ghost: The Musical will star Christian Bautista as Sam, Cris Villonco as Molly, Ima Castro as Oda Mae, and Hans Eckstein as Carl. The local production will be directed by Bobby Garcia. It will be staged until May 11 at the Carlos P. Romulo Auditorium, RCBC Plaza, Makati.
Where to be this weekend: Boracay
The summer heat has reached an all-time high and there are only two places to be for the Labor Day weekend: LaBoracay or LaBorahay. There are planes and boats that can take you to the island last minute, and you can catch up with the best parties for summer. The highlight for the weekend (and the entire summer) is Tattoo’s Labor Day weekend party at Epic, with Cedric Gervais spinning tonight and Steve Aoki closing the party tomorrow. If that’s not enough to convince you to fly — or swim — to Boracay, imagine all the hot guys and girls that will be around the shore! Drop this paper now and book it!
