MANILA, Philippines - Year five of the Philippine STAR and Swatch Chinese New Year Art Competition has evolved into an impressive art competition in all mediums.
This year entries included short video clips, ingenious use of recycled materials and industrial metal forging clay.
In keeping with the traits of the tiger, the winning entries of this year’s Swatch Tiger Art Competition displayed enthusiasm, confidence and ferocious intensity.
The school with the tiger mascot, UST, had the largest contingent of entries, ranging from students in grade school to college. The fighting spirit of UST showed through in the expression of their growling tigers, which were seemingly poised to win and overcome any adversary in academics or sports, and for this UST wins a Special Award.
Special Awards will also be given to Roderick Bañares for “Metal Tiger Burning Bright,” Aaron James Mongcopa for the “Tiger Scroll” video clip and Mark Angelo Argarin for “Letras y Figuras,” among others.
The Swatch Store in SM Megamall is currently developing a gallery and activity room, which will open on April 8. The winning entries of the Swatch Tiger Art competition will be on display at the new site. The highlight of the event will be awarding of prizes to the winners and honoring Filipinos born in the year of the Tiger.
