Celebrate the Year of the Ox at the SM Mall of Asia

The SM Mall of Asia welcomes the Year of the Ox in a grand celebration that includes spectacular fireworks, traditional Chinese music and dances, and talks on ways to improve your luck from feng shui experts.

A dazzling Pyromusical Display will usher in the festivities on Jan. 23 at 7 p.m. at San Miguel by the Bay. Fireworks have been a traditional way of welcoming the New Year, and are said to bring forth luck.

Mallgoers will have a chance to see the Chinese Fan and Ribbon Dance as performed by Ballet Manila’s elegant China Dolls in an original suite choreographed by Lisa Macuja and Osias Barroso with original music by Joey Ayala. Don’t miss this at the Main Mall Atrium on Jan. 24 at 5 p.m.

Schoolchildren from the Grace Christian College, on the other hand, will perform the Poetry of Sound using authentic Chinese instruments, also at the Main Mall Atrium at 6 p.m..

Some of the country’s top feng shui experts will also share tips on how to find your luck in the Year of the Ox. Joy Lim will speak on “Finding Your Luck” in 2009 on Jan.24 at 5 p.m. at the Main Mall Atrium. World of Feng Shui president and CEO Maritess Allen will inspire mallgoers with a talk on how they can “Dare to Dream” and attract good luck and good fortune in the coming year. This will take place on Jan. 25 at 4 p.m. at the Main Mall Atrium.

No Chinese New Year celebration would be complete without a Dragon and Lion Dance, and as the premiere destination mall in the Asia-Pacific region, the Mall of Asia will have a Grand Dragon Dance on Jan. 25 at 4 p.m. at the Main Mall Atrium.

On the same day, Eva Marie Poon, one of the country’s top female vocalists will sing Chinese ballads at 6 p.m. also at the Main Mall Atrium.

Festivities start early on the Chinese New Year day itself with a Grand Lion Dance on Jan. 26 at 10 a.m., to bring good luck and cheer in the year to come.
