Frosted!

The color white is known to have the presence of all colors and that’s what best defines fellow YStyle columnist and food aficionado DJ Montano’s personality – light, bright and bursting with color. There couldn’t have been a better way for him to celebrate his birthday and the launch of his PR and specialty events company, Montage, than with an all-white themed soiree at über-cool Embassy Super Club at The Fort.

An intimate dinner for dear friends prepared by chef Fernando Aracama at the delish Embassy Restaurant proved to be a feast for the senses. Appetizers included foie gras served two ways, a delectable salad and gravlax, while tasty lapu-lapu and succulent pan-roasted chicken certainly pleased the palate. The menu was perfect for carb counters and had just the right proportions. Bubbly flowed courtesy of Moet et Chandon and Veuve Clicquot, which kept pals white-hot and glowing with happiness. As if that weren’t enough, there were white chocolate champagne truffles and a birthday cake to satisfy my pearly white sweet tooth, rather, teeth, which explains my multiple visits to the dentist (Thank you, Dr. Mark Gan)! Indulgence was abundant, from the champagne to the truffles to the white ice that was dangling from the ladies’ décolleté, earlobes and fingers.

Luminous white clad guests merrily made their way next door to the cozy VIP Lounge where they mingled underneath glitter balls and sprawled out on couches surrounded by white balloons, sequins, roses and candles arranged by in-demand decorator Miguel Rosales. Even though we had just come from dinner, I couldn’t help myself from sampling the white hors d’oeuvres being passed around by the staff cleverly dressed in white T-shirts with "Cheers DJ" embroidered on them. It was hard to balance my clutch, the pica pica and my Absolut Vanilla tonic while dancing to house and retro beats by DJ Jon Herrera, all at the same time.

As the wee hours of the morning crept upon us, I tossed in my white flag and bid the birthday boy a very happy birthday indeed. Tired from dancing, at that point, the color white to me symbolized all things clean, pure and serene, like my soft white bedsheets, which I slipped into and contentedly dozed off.
