MANILA, Philippines - When shopping in very good stores abroad, you see beautiful items that you wish you could buy — if only these weren't too steeply priced. And then you somehow find out that these are made in the Philippines by our very own artists and artisans. But you don't know where and how to get them here.
Fortunately, such proudly Filipino exportables are showcased in exhibits by CITEM twice a year in Manila. One such exporter who makes accessories which are favored by the fashionable jet set goes by the brand name Silnag.
“Silnagâ€, meaning “ray of the sun†in Ilocano, expresses the hopes and aspirations of a creative couple, John and Enida Danao.John is the marketing person for his wife Enida, whose artistic vision stems from her Benguet hometown. Silnag accessories have a certain soul and style. Using mostly organic materials such as cow bone, carabao horn, salvaged wood and seeds, these are the type that are current bestsellers in big couture houses and branded accessory shops.
John and Enida have been exporting to Europe, USA and Japan the past eight years, yet they want their products to be also within reach of the local market. Raw Earth Collections by Silnag are available at Pioneer Highlands on Madison St. corner EDSA. For details, contact 0917-5238353.
